New Hope Volunteer Fire Department of Orange County was formed in 1972 due to increasing population and rumors of an interstate being built. The fire department was formed by a group of community members called the New Hope Improvement Association. The NHIA began raising funds to build the original fire station and a community building, as well as the funds to purchase equipment. The original fire station is what currently stands under the community building while the two lower bays and living quarters were built in 1999. Station 2 was built in 1975. We currently work three paid personnel 24 hours a day. There are three full-time shift officers that work a rotating 24-hour schedule and the Deputy Chief of Operations works a 40-hour week. Volunteers supplement staffing by spending time at the station (volunteer duty hours) or respond to calls from their home.
