Your Home Escape Plan

Make a home escape plan.  Draw a map of your home showing all doors and windows.  Discuss the plan with everyone in your home,

Know at least 2 ways out of every room,

Have an outside meeting place where everyone should meet,

Practice your home fire drill at night and during the day,

Practice using different ways out,

Teach children to escape on their own,

Close doors behind you as you leave.

Training

New Hope Fire Department holds training sessions on Monday nights at 7:00 PM, as follows:

1st and 2nd Mondays of the month: Firefighter training, which consists of hands on activity that allows members to train in a controlled atmosphere. This type of setting helps prevent injuries and allows inexperienced firefighters to train along side more experienced members to hone their skills.

3rd Monday of the month: Emergency Medical Services (EMS) training, for firefighters who have completed training at the First Responder or higher level.

4th Monday of the month: Monthly business meeting, followed by monthly meeting of the Board of Directors.

Rapid Intervention Training with Orange Rural and Eno  Pump Drafting Operations

New firefighters are required to take the minimum 10 classes (NFPA 1403) in order to perform any fire suppression activity.

The State of North Carolina requires that firefighters attend a minimum of 36 hours of training a year to continue to perform as a firefighter. Once a firefighter becomes certified by the state, he/she must record 150 training hours every 5 years in order to maintain this certification.

Training goes beyond the fire station. There are many training opportunities offered throughout the state. These schools allow you to interact with instructors and personnel from other agencies which will allow you to learn new ideas that you can take back to the firehouse.
